Greetings!
If you are new to the USA and Blacksburg, or you are just beginning
to learn about Christianity, all of the different "Christian"
groups may be confusing. In Blacksburg, there are approximately 40
different "Christian" churches. If you are interested in
more information about different Christian churches or "denominations,"
let me know.
You should know that not every group that claims to be "Christian"
really is Christian. Of course, the term "Christian" has
a broad range of meaning. So we need to ask, "What is authentic
(true) Christianity?" and "What is the basis of authentic
Christianity?" "Authentic Christianity" is based soundly
on the teaching of the Bible, and its fundamental teachings are consistent
with the generally accepted teachings over the long history of the
Christian church.
"Two Nice People Came to My Door"
Maybe you have had people come to your door and offer you free literature,
or a Bible, or offer to teach you the Bible. If you ask them, "Are
you Christian?," they may say, "yes." But they might
be from a group like "Jehovah's Witnesses" or the "Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" (Mormon). (The Jehovah's
Witnesses meet in the "Kingdom Hall.") The teaching of these
groups is not the same as historical, biblical Christianity. People
from these groups may be nice, but they do not represent "authentic
Christianity."
I have books and resources to help you understand the differences
between biblical Christianity and these groups, but the main thing
to know right now is they are different! Please let me know if I can
provide more information. You
can send me an email at HISbburg@msn.com
