ICF Events

Greetings!

Here are some upcoming events:

CRANWELL ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC (Friday, June 18, 4:30 - 6:30 pm)
This is not an ICF event, but we plan to be there, and it is open to all international students, scholars, and community members. Come join us at the Cranwell International Center for food, drinks, music, storytelling, and games. After the picnic, those interested might want to go to the Summer Arts Festival on Henderson Lawn to hear Island Pan and Panjammers (Steel Drum Orchestra).

ICF PICNIC AT CLAYTOR LAKE (Saturday, June 19, 10:30 am)
Join us for this event at Claytor Lake State Park, which features picnic grounds, hiking, swimming, fishing and boating. We plan to leave Blacksburg at 11 am (meeting place to be determined). Bring your own bag lunch (there is also a small snack bar at the park). Bring some blankets and/or folding chairs, and we will eat between the swimming area and boat docks. We can provide transportation for several and others can follow. If you prefer, you can meet us there. The State Park is located off I-81, exit 101, near Dublin, about 35 minutes from Blacksburg. There are fees for parking ($3 per car); swimming ($3 per person ages 3-12, $4 per person above age 12); and boat rental ($8-10 per hour for kayak or canoe). We realize there is a CBS event on June 19 (starting at 4 pm), but this is the only day we could do it. We plan to get back to Blacksburg around 4 pm. If the weather is bad, this event will be canceled. If you are interested in this event, please let me know.

BCF SUMMER PICNIC (Saturday, June 26, 5 pm)
Come to the Kelley-Schnecker picnic area (on Yarrow Road, off Harding Road) for this fun event. Joe's Famous Barbequed Chicken will be provided. Families should bring a large side dish and a dessert (enough to feed your family and a couple more), and singles should bring a 2-liter bottle of soft drink or a dessert or side dish. Also, bring lawn chairs or blankets and plan to stay and visit with friends. In case of rain, the event will be moved to BCF.

ICF HIKE AT CASCADES (Sunday, July 11)
The Cascades is a beautiful 21 meter waterfall near Pembroke. The hike to the waterfall is 6.4 km round trip, though you don't have to hike all the way to the waterfall to see beautiful scenery. Please bring a bag lunch for our picnic in the Cascades picnic area. We will leave the BCF parking lot after church (around 12:40 pm) to go the Cascades. There is probably not enough time to get your lunch before the worship service and departure time, so those coming to church should bring their bag lunch to church. If you prefer, you can meet us at Cascades. It takes about 25 minutes from Blacksburg. We hope to return no later than 5 pm.
